New Hartford Scanner is pleased to announce the latest technology in CT Scan Imaging: The Siemens 64 Row CT Scanner. Located at St. Luke’s Campus of Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare.
Cardiac CTA is now offered as a service for patients with cardiac disease symptoms and a low to intermediate risk of coronary artery disease.
Coronary CT Angiography is a CT Scan of the coronary arteries. This study detects the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD) and can determine the severity of the disease. Studies have shown that coronary CTA has a very high (97%) negative
predictive value. This means that when compared to invasive cardiac catherization, coronary CT angiography is very accurate in excluding significant disease.
With the advantages of the new scanner, radiologists can identify cardiac disease in its early stages and visualized soft plaque in coronary arteries. This diagnostic information becomes a part of the existing patient profile so that the referring physician can perform further evaluation.

Features of 64 Row CT Scanner

Speed and Temporal Resolution
Temporal resolution is the required time for data acquisition per slice. Comparable to the shutter speed of a photo camera and should be infinitely short in order to avoid motion artifacts on the image.

Shutter speed is everything...we refer to shutter speed as gantry rotational speed, which on the 64 Row CT Scanner is .33 ms. This means that:

The entire gantry rotates 360 degrees in .33 ms.
3 revolutions in one second
64 slices per rotation = 192 slices per second

Spatial Resolution
Refers to the degree of blurring in the image and the ability to discriminate objects and structures of small size. The 64 Row CT Scanner can identify objects less than .4 mm. The advanced computer processing allows advanced cone beam reconstruction algorithms for the elimination of artifact. This means superior detail of plaques and stenoses compared to previous technologies.
